Dash Restoration service
Does your dash have cracks in the vinyl? After 40-50 years of being in these cars, most dashes have cracked, or are going to crack.
We can restore your 1970-1981 Firebird dashboard for you. We have restored over 500 dashes for customers.
Current reproduction time is 2-3 weeks
The dash restoration service is $850 plus the return shipping cost.
Your dash will have the vinyl and foam stripped off of it. New foam will be applied and then new vinyl will be vacuum molded into place using original GM molds. The dash comes out looking like new. You just need to ensure that your plastic frame on the dash is in good condition.
Dashes can be restored in any color you need. We can also color match your glove box door ($40), under steering column panel ($30), and ashtray ($20) if you desire for the listed extra cost.
We use a vinyl that is the same as the 1972-1981 OEM grain in black only. If you need a different color, your piece of vinyl is cut and they sprayed with SEM interior vinyl paint. Then it goes in the vacuum mold to attach the vinyl to the dash. If any places show the black through the paint due to the pulling and stretching of the vacuum process, paint is reapplied to cover any black showing though. The vacuum process really sets the paint well.
When you have your dash out, you will need to inspect the plastic frame of the dash to ensure it is in good condition. The top back where the dash meets the cowl needs to line up to your cowl evenly. If it is wavy then your restored dash will be wavy and not line up to the cowl perfectly. The best way to check this is by hanging the dash on your cowl after peeling back the vinyl in that area.
If your radio hole is cut out it will be filled with a light foam and fiberglass that you can trim out to fit your radio. If your radio area is uncut and you DO NOT want it repaired, you will want to request that the area is not filled in.
There are metal bars on the bottom inside of your dash. These will be removed during the process and reinstalled after the recovering. If yours are rusty you should clean them up with a wire brush or some Evaporust prior to sending out your dash. Cleaning of these bars is not included in the restoration process and they will be reinstalled in the condition they are received.
